According to the article published in the Florida Business Journal of June 29, 2018, Jacksonville, Florida is fast becoming a destination for healthcare. For the longest time, people transferring to Florida from another state would be asking me is their good health care in your part of Florida? As a former practicing RN, I am proud to say yes and share the many great hospitals in the community with you. They include the famous Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, one of three well known Mayo campuses along with Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona and Rochester, Minnesota. A $70.5 million expansion plan is currently underway and you can read more about that here.
In addition, Baptist's MD Anderson Cancer Clinic and St Vincents Hospital are currently expanding their facilities and investing millions in renovations and new facilities. This also translates into jobs. As of March 2018 the unemployment rate in Jacksonville was 3.7%,
The Business Journal article quotes a 2014 report by the nonprofit Florida Tax Watch that states "about 20 percent of the Mayo Clinic's patients are Floridians traveling more than 150 miles within Florida. Another 20 percent of its patients are non- Floridian U.S. citizens, and 2 percent are international flying in for treatment." Many come for treatment and find this is a wonderful community with a great lifestyle and make a move to be close to their healthcare providers.
But patients aren't the only travelers to Jacksonville. The Business Journal article also indicated that there are new medical businesses establishing themselves here, expanding research facilities at existing hospitals, medical conferences and meetings taking place which include trade shows, and tours of hospital facilities! "The economic impact for medical tourism in the city in 2014 was nearly $30 million annually according to Visit Jacksonville."
One of my most recent new homeowners moved from Wisconsin to Jacksonville as their medical spine technology and research company was expanding its presence here and was the reason for his moving his family. They love the Jacksonville area for the beaches, good private schools, golf, and of course the weather.
This is an exciting time for Jacksonville's Health Care providers and recipients. You can rest assured you can find the best that medicine has to offer in the United States right here.
